Our apartment in Madrid

I posted a few pictures today for you to see the tiny flat we're living in. We love it! Look at that view off our balcony, it's our favorite to stand there and look out on the street, especially in the evening when the most people are outside. We're becoming more familiar with the directions and city streets, although it's still very easy to veer slightly to the right or left on a street and end up in a completely new place. We took a walking tour today offered by the director of our Spanish school, and he gave us 2 hours of his brilliant insight into the historical district in Madrid. We actually comprehended most of what he said (being that the whole tour was in Spanish) and felt pretty proud of ourselves! It's amazing how much you absorb in 3 days. If only speaking the language was as easy as hearing it.... -Trish

Hey Trish! LOVE your pics! You look sooooo happy! I just love the view from your balcony. Today was pupil-free day and tomorrow is the first with the kids. I'll tell you all about it in an email. Nervous but excited. Have a fantasic day!

It's so great to have a visual for you--I imagined it like this. Yes you do look so relaxed and happy, I'm sure you can still hardly believe you're finally there and doing the dream. Yeah!

....supposedly one of the most beautiful in all of Europe

The city (the former capital of Spain) is on top of a hill, surrounded by a stone wall

the narrow city streets were an adventure to walk on

The "Bullet Train"

The "Bullet Train"
This high speed train runs over 200 miles an hour! We traveled a distance of 100 miles in 30 minutes flat. Amazing.

Excited for our first trip outside of Madrid

Another typical plaza in the center of the city. As usual, late in the day all the folks gather together and sit and catch up on their days. Very pleasant!

I loved watching this sweet elderly man pacing the square. Looks like he might have benefited from drinking more milk though in his younger days!

Our first "Menu of the Dia." This is my 1st course of their famous gaspacho- served more pureed and smooth here than how we make it in CA...

a view from on top of the city

love the flowers and shadows
