We have many stories and adventures to share about our weekend travels to Seville and Granada. But before we bring you that, I just had to share with you my sorrow. I was brought to tears last night as I watched my beloved camera fall from the table to the ground with a “crunch.” With it my spirits were crushed as my dearly loved daily hobby also left my grasp. I was at an absolute loss when I discovered the two cracks in the lens. I’m pretty sure that it is not repairable… but once we return to Madrid I will get it checked out in a camera shop. Of course, much to our dismay, I will have to purchase a new camera ASAP as a year like this cannot exist without it. I am so, so sad to be without my camera though, even if for a few days.
It happened at a very inopportune time. We arrived in Granada yesterday with the purpose of touring the magnificent Alhambra Palace today. Our tickets for the Alhambra were purchased 2 weeks ago, and at that time we were given a specific time, 10:00am, when we’d be allowed to enter today. With that time frame, we had no time this morning to buy a camera or even a temporary camera to catch the shots of this once-in-a-lifetime viewing. The camera fell off the table late last night as I was trying to catch a “moment” of Travis and I sipping tea in a “Moorish tea shop” in the historic Moorish district of Granada. As I set the timer up on the camera and positioned it, I had just wanted to share this moment with you all! Never would I have guessed that my stupid move would be the end of my camera. With no stores open last night and nothing open this morning- I had to resolve myself to the fact that the Alhambra would have to remain a memory only in my mind, not in print. (This was NOT easy for me)
Here’s what I’ve learned from this experience. First, I never realized before how much joy photography brings me. I noticed that I look at and explore every sight with the eye of my camera lens. I’m constantly looking at lighting, architecture and lines to determine and experiment with the best shots. There were over 100 moments this morning during our 4-hour exploration of the Palace where I framed a photograph in my mind. Secondly, I’ve learned that I’m probably a little bit too tied to this earthly possession. The loss I felt when it would not turn back on was much too severe for an electronic device! This helped me to put some things in perspective and think about the irreplaceable things in life, and the many, many things I am incredibly grateful for and blessed by. I mean, here I am with my husband in a European country experiencing a dream of my life! I shouldn’t be spending so much time grieving the loss of this possession!
So, that is my sad tale… it may take awhile for me to get all of our new pictures posted on the blog. And, there will be none of Granada or the Alhambra. ☹ I just had to quick share my grief. We take the 6:30am train back to Madrid tomorrow morning, so we’ll catch you up with more news once we return. Hasta Luego!

Excursion to Toledo
The Toldeo Cathedral
....supposedly one of the most beautiful in all of Europe
The city (the former capital of Spain) is on top of a hill, surrounded by a stone wall
the narrow city streets were an adventure to walk on
lovely city streets...
The top of a mosque
The "Bullet Train"
This high speed train runs over 200 miles an hour! We traveled a distance of 100 miles in 30 minutes flat. Amazing.
Excited for our first trip outside of Madrid
Another typical plaza in the center of the city. As usual, late in the day all the folks gather together and sit and catch up on their days. Very pleasant!
I loved watching this sweet elderly man pacing the square. Looks like he might have benefited from drinking more milk though in his younger days!
Our first "Menu of the Dia." This is my 1st course of their famous gaspacho- served more pureed and smooth here than how we make it in CA...
a view from on top of the city
love the flowers and shadows
The Packing Nightmare!
We actually lived amongst this for several days!
